Claude Code for your weekly admin, even if terminals scare you
You use Claude in the browser every day and keep hearing it can work directly on your files. Most free tutorials assume you are a developer. This course starts before the terminal and ends with one finished automation for a job you repeat every week, using setup guides and recipes written for people who do not code.
The course: Claude Code for non-engineers: your first useful automation in an afternoon

If this sounds like your week
- You copy text out of a chat window, paste it into a file, and do the same thing again next week.
- Every guide opens with a command to paste into a terminal, and you do not know what it will do.
- You worry that one wrong instruction will overwrite or delete files you need.
- You ask a technical colleague to script something small, then wait in their queue.
What you do now, and where it stops working
Today you use Claude or ChatGPT as a faster search box and move the results by hand. That holds until the same job comes back every Monday. Asking a developer colleague works too, but the queue is theirs, not yours.
What changes after the course
- Claude Code installed on your own Mac or Windows computer, and you know what each setup step did.
- You open a terminal, move to the right folder and start Claude Code without a guide open.
- One automation you chose, for a job you repeat each week, finished and working on your files.
- You read what Claude Code proposes before you approve it, so you know what it changed.
How it works: The practice-folder afternoon
- 1Install and open Claude Code on Mac or Windows, with each command explained in plain language.
- 2Work in a practice folder of copied files, so nothing you need is at risk while you learn.
- 3Choose the job with a short worksheet: something you repeat weekly and can finish in one sitting.
- 4Adapt one of five starter recipes to that job.
- 5Check before you trust: read each proposed change, approve or reject it, and confirm the result.
What you get
- Installation guide for Mac and Windows
- Terminal basics cheat sheet
- Five starter automation recipes to adapt
- Video walkthrough of the afternoon, start to finish
This is for you if
- You use Claude or ChatGPT in the browser most days.
- You have a weekly job that is mostly moving, tidying or summarizing files.
- You have never opened a terminal, or opened one and closed it again.
Skip it if
- You already write scripts or code; the pace will feel slow.
- Your employer does not allow AI tools on your work computer. Check before you buy.
- You want an app built for you. This course teaches one automation you run yourself.
Before you join
- I have never used a terminal. Is that a problem?
- No. The course assumes you have never opened one. It covers the few commands you need, what each one does, and how to stop safely if something looks wrong.
- Can it delete my files or break my computer?
- Claude Code asks for your approval before it edits files, and the course teaches you to read each request before you say yes. You learn on a practice folder of copies first, so your real files stay out of it until you choose. Jay West runs his own work on Claude Code daily with the same rule: every change is reviewed before it is kept.
- Do I need a paid Claude plan?
- Yes. Claude Code needs a paid Claude plan or API credits, and neither is included in the course price. Check Anthropic’s current pricing before you buy; the course shows you where to see your usage.
- Why not just watch YouTube or take a free course?
- Free material is good for seeing what Claude Code can do, and much of it is written for developers. This course gives you setup guides, a practice folder and recipes for non-coding jobs, and it ends when your own automation works.
- Anthropic has Cowork for non-technical people. Should I use that instead?
- Possibly. Cowork is Anthropic’s version with guardrails built in, aimed at people who want to avoid the terminal. If it does your job, use it. This course is for people who want Claude Code itself, working in their own folders, with recipes they can adapt.
